He was under the observation of Medicine Department Head Dr Navneet Wig and was suffering from cancer, diabetes, thyroid and hypertension.

His sudden demise has left the Saint society in shock.

Early Life:

Sudhir Kumar Makkar, a resident of Delhi's Gandhi Nagar, was a tailor having huge aspirations of becoming wealthy as he was highly fascinated by the glitter of gold. He gradually owned his clothing shop but kept on changing his profession to fulfil his desires. Following this, he also tried his hands in property dealing and restaurant business.

A few decades before, his name was also associated with many criminal cases including extortion and kidnapping filed at Gandhi Nagar police station and he was a known gangster among people.

The turning point:

Once during his trip to Haridwar, he decided to retire from criminal activities and adopted the life of a saint but he could not resist his desire for gold. Each year he attended Kanwar Yatra wearing gold ornaments over 20 kg all over his body and the price of the gold was estimated to be more than Rs one crore. This strange appearance of a saint garnered him a name as Golden Baba. He used to distribute gold to the needy and his followers during Kanwar Yatras.

A life which experienced all odds and evens:

Expressing grief to the demise of Golden Baba, Guru Maa Kanchan Giri in an exclusive conversation with ETV Bharat said that he was also associated with Juna Akhara.

"He was also restricted to attend the royal bath at Kumbh Mela last year following a clash but was later given permission after an agreement with the authorities," Guru Maa Kanchan Giri said.

She revealed that despite his early life was involved in crime, he later became famous among people due to his kind donations.
