Ghaziabad: A three-month pregnant woman lost her foetus after two armed bike-borne assailants attacked her in her jewellery shop in Uttar Pradesh's Ghaziabad on Saturday evening.
The incident took place at around 8 pm in the Keshav market of the Loni area, where her shop 'Gupta Jewellers' is located.
Ghaziabad's DLF Police post has registered the case on Sunday, 24 hours after the incident.
According to reports, at around 3 pm on November 16, the couple Ragini Gupta and husband 23-year-old Raj Nath Gupta were in their shop when two men wearing helmets came in posing as customers.
"One of the assailants robbed money from the cash counter and fired two shots on the wall. They snatched the key and took all the jewellery from the locker," said the victim's husband.
He further said, "One of them kicked Ragini (the victim) and kept pushing her to the wall until they took all the jewellery from the locker."
Once the assailants fled, Raj took his wife Ragini to the doctor, where doctors informed them about her miscarriage.
Raj also alleged that his wife and he went to the DLF police post to report the incident where the police post-in-charge SI Ramnarayan Singh tried to hide the incident.
"The police did not lodge the FIR. We handed over two empty cartridges to the police post-in-charge. The in-charge instead of registering a complaint about the theft started scolding us. He also did not inform the SHO about the incident," he added.
While talking to ETV Bharat the senior police officer said, "The police in-charge of the DLF police station was lax in registering an FIR into the incident."
Police said they took a stern view of the incident and the policeman’s conduct.
He added, "The FIR registered included the more stringent IPC section 395 (robbery)."
The investigation is underway and police have formed teams to catch the robbers.
