Gang of ATM card-cloners busted in Uttar Pradesh, 4 held

Four persons were arrested on Tuesday after Uttar Pradesh police busted a gang of ATM card-cloners. Cops said, the racketeers used to loot cash from a person's account late at night, they also kept weapons for their safety.

Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh police on Tuesday busted a gang of ATM card-cloners in Amroha city who used to target people on ATM booth in order to steal data from their debit card.

Police said the gang has four members identified as Mahendra, Amarjeet, Ramesh, Sanjeev and they have allegedly duped over a hundred people so far.

Cops recovered 14 debit cards of various banks, one card swipe machine, three mobile phones and one Honda i20 car from their possession. A senior officer said that the gang's modus operandi differs from other gangs involved in similar crimes.

The gang purchased the skimming devices online; after downloading a mobile-based application and watching YouTube tutorials the culprits successfully learnt to operate the machine for their surreptitious motive, they also had a swipe machine which helped them in their crime official stated.

He further revealed that the gang on the pretext of helping, somehow mislead people to swipe their ATM card in the swipe machine they possessed. "This machine further recorded the debit card number and other essential information. The gang would then clone the card with the information provided in the machine," the officer said.
