Former Uttar Pradesh Minister Chhote Lal Varma's wife, who tested positive for COVID-19 died of the infection on Wednesday. On Tuesday, state Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Atul Garg, tested positive for the virus.

Agra: Former Uttar Pradesh Minister, Chhote Lal Varma's wife has died of coronavirus infection in Agra on Wednesday.

So far, eight ministers in the Yogi Adityanath Cabinet and several MLAs have been infected with Covid-19, of which two ministers, Chetan Chauhan and Kamal Rani Varun, have succumbed to the virus.

Uttar Pradesh Minister Chaudhary Udaibhan Singh, who hails from Agra, has also been found positive for corona and has been hospitalised in Lucknow.

On Tuesday, state Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Atul Garg, tested positive for the virus.

Besides, senior IAS officer Raj Shekhar, Legislator Mahendra Singh Yadav, BJP Mahila Morcha state president Darshana Singh have also tested positive for the Coronavirus.

According to state government data as of Wednesday, UP has recorded 1.63 lakh cases so far. The number of active cases stands at 50,242 while 1.09 lakh people have recovered. The death toll is at 2,585.

Currently, Maharashtra is India’s worst affected state with 6.15 lakh cases and 20,687 deaths. Tamil Nadu has recorded 3.49 lakh cases and 6,007 deaths; Andhra Pradesh 3.06 lakh cases and 2,820 deaths; and Karnataka 2.40 lakh cases and 4,201 deaths.

India on Thursday saw a spike of 69,652 cases and 977 deaths in the last 24 hours. The Covid-19 tally in the country has now climbed to 28,36,926 including 6,86,395 active cases. The number of cured, discharged or migrated stands at 20,96,665 while the deaths have risen to 53,866, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said.
