Saharanpur: A total of eleven teachers succumbed to Covid-19 in Saharanpur in the last thirteen days. The deaths have triggered a row as the teachers were involved in panchayat polls duty on April 15.
Relatives of the deceased teachers alleged that there were many teachers whose health was deteriorating even before election duty. Even though they raised the demand for Covid test prior to election duty, it was in vain, as per the allegation.

Seema Rani, a deceased teacher, experienced breathing difficulty during election. Still, officers did not isolate her. Later, more teachers developed Covid-19 symptoms, said a relative.
Basic Shiksha Adhikari, BSA, Ramendra Kumar has accepted that four primary school teachers have died after getting infected with Covid-19 during election duty. However, Kumar refrained from speaking to media in front of camera. However, District School Inspector Arun Dubey has denied that teachers were infected with Covid-19 during election duty.

The teachers had tested positive for Covid-19 after panchayat poll duty on April 15. There were 3283 teams on duty in 1236 polling stations set up in 884-gram panchayaths. Teachers were given training for polling duty from April 7.
