Lucknow: The Election Commission on Monday, has sought a report from the district election officer over recent remarks made by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath during an election rally in Shahjahanpur.

According to a statement issued by the office of Chief Electoral Officer, Adityanath had reportedly violated the model code of conduct, in reference to his 'Nandi Baba' remark targetting SP and BSP leaders. The EC has asked the district election officer to submit the report in the matter.

It may be recalled that chaos had erupted at a rally of the grand-alliance (SP-BSP-RLD) in UP's Kannauj after a rogue bull entered the venue and created havoc.

Addressing the gathering, Samajwadi Party Chief Akhilesh Yadav had said, "We were not aware that anyone would come with complaints. It (bull) may have thought that a helicopter from Hardoi is coming and hence, had come with its own set of complaints."

Following this, Adityanath, during an election rally at Shahjahanpur, said, "I was recently in Kannuj where the people told me a 'Nandi Baba' had entered the venue of the grand-alliance rally, probably to find out which of the slaughterhouse operators were there and to treat them accordingly."

Earlier, EC had strongly condemned Yogi Adityanath for his communal remark and barred him for 72 hours for campaigning.
