UP woman doctor brought to KIMS Hyderabad for lungs transplant

Dr Sharda Suman was taken to Hyderabad on Sunday morning at 11 am with a team of doctors who came from KIMS Hyderabad hospital. A special Green Corridor from the hospital to Lucknow's Amausi Airport was established for her transfer.

Lucknow: Dr Sharda Suman was taken to Hyderabad on Sunday morning at 11 am with a team of doctors who came from KIMS Hyderabad hospital. Dr Sharda Suman was on an ECMO machine for 45 days under the supervision of Professor PK Das of the Department of Critical Care in the Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences. A special Green Corridor from the hospital to Lucknow's Amausi Airport was established for her transfer.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has given Rs 1.5 crore for the treatment of Dr Sharda Suman, who is a resident doctor of the Department of Obs and Gynecology in Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences. Her lungs got infected due to Covid and she was kept on a ventilator and ECMO machine in the ICU department of the institute. She was advised for lung transplant by the high-level medical committee.

The financial condition of Dr Sharda's family was not such that they could get such expensive treatment. She requested the Director of the institute and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for financial help. The Chief Minister was apprised of the condition of Dr Sharda by the Director. After which the Chief Minister immediately provided financial assistance of Rs 1.5 crore to the family for treatment.

During the Covid-19 period, Dr Sharda Suman was busy saving the lives of patients. Despite being pregnant, she assisted women coming in emergency for delivery. However, she got infected with Covid-19 and her lungs were severely damaged. She was put on oxygen support. The UP government is now bearing the cost of her lung transplant.

According to Dr Sonia Nityanand, Director of Lohia Institute, Dr Sharda Suman is on the post of Junior Resident in the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics. She is also pursuing a DNB course from the institute. She was recently married. Her husband is also working as a resident doctor. Dr Sharda contracted the infection on 12th April. On April 14, her report came to Corona positive. She delivered her baby on May 1.
