District Magistrate orders inquiry after liquor deaths in Lucknow

An investigation has been ordered into the death of three people, who allegedly died after consuming spurious liquor. District Magistrate Abhishek Prakash has expressed concern over the development and directed the police to file an FIR against people involved in the business of illegal liquor.

Lucknow: The district administration has ordered an inquiry into the deaths of three people, who died allegedly after consuming spurious liquor, official sources said.

They said that the incident took place in Banthara area of the city on Friday evening when Sundar Lal, 35, Acche, 30 and Rajkumar, 32 had consumed alcohol along with two others.

They were taken seriously ill and rushed to a hospital where three of them - Lal, Achhe and Rajkumar died while the other two were in critical condition.

District Magistrates Abhishek Prakash has expressed concern over the development and has ordered sealing of all illegal liquor outlets in the district. He also asked the officials concerned to file an FIR and investigate the matter thoroughly.

Meanwhile, the bodies have been sent for post-mortem as it would help ascertain if toxic liquor caused the deaths, the police official said.
