Lucknow: The death knell rang, funeral flowers were set and prayers were heard aloud, when the family of Mohammad Furqan noticed movement within the white cotton, enshrouding his body.

Shocked and mystified the family rushed him back to the hospital after noticing the movement in his limbs.

The 21-year-old Furqan was admitted to a private hospital in Lucknow following a severe accident and was declared dead on June 23.

According to reports, Furqan met with an accident on June 21 and was being treated before finally being sent home as a corpse.

"Devastated, we were preparing for the burial when some of us saw movement in his limbs. We immediately took Furqan to the Ram Manohar Lohia hospital where the doctors said he was alive and have put him on ventilator support," elder brother Mohammad Irfan said.

However, his family has alleged that Furqan was declared dead because they could not pay the treatment charges after a point of time.

"We had paid Rs 7 lakh to the private hospital earlier and when we told them that we had run out of money, they had declared Furqan dead on Monday," Irfan alleged.

Lucknow Chief Medical Officer has taken cognizance of the incident and a probe has been initiated.

"We have taken cognizance of the incident and the matter will be thoroughly probed," (CMO) Narendra Agarwal said.

According to hospital officials, Furqan has been put on ventilator support and have denied the scenario of him being brain dead.

"The patient is in critical condition but definitely not brain dead. He has pulse, blood pressure and his reflexes. He has been put on ventilator support," the medical officials said.
