Hardoi (Uttar Pradesh): At a time when the Prime Minister appealed to cooperate with the doctors and administration to curb the novel Coronavirus, some covidiots are still not taking the pandemic seriously.
As many 32 COVID-19 suspects, who have been under home quarantine for the last 7 days in Uttar Pradesh's Hardoi district, have fled away on Sunday.
According to the reports, all the 32 suspects are hailing from different parts of the country, came here to work as daily wage labourers. As a precautionary measure, they have been kept under quarantine at Rajkiya Inter College, Tadiyawa near here.
Quarantine centre authorities said that they broke the window of the room and fled away during the wee hours of Sunday.
When ETV Bharat highlighted the issue, Hardoi Additional District Magistrate Sanjay Kumar Singh immediately ordered the local SHO to nab all those who have fleed from the quarantine centre.
"I came to know about the incident from some media reports. Taking prompt action, I informed the local authorities to start a search operation for all those who have fled. Also, a case has been registered against all the 32 people who have been kept under quarantine" said ADM Sanjay Singh.
The number of coronavirus patients in Uttar Pradesh jumped to 276 on Sunday, an increase of 42 cases in the past one day.
Principal Secretary (Medical and Health) Amit Mohan Prasad said half of the cases (138) were linked to the Tablighi Jamaat.
Most cases related to the Jamaat were detected from Agra (29), Ghaziabad (14), Meerut (13), Shamli (8), Maharajganj (6), Kanpur (6) and Ghazipur (5), he said.
The number of cases of the novel coronavirus across the globe crossed the 1 million mark as the global death toll topped 50,000. India has reported over 3,500 COVID-19 cases with the death toll at 83, according to Health Ministry figures released on Sunday.
