Lucknow: A representative of MLA Sangeet Som was shot dead on Saturday by some unidentified assailants in Meerut district of Uttar Pradesh, an official said.
"The deceased was inside his room when his family heard sound of gunfire. As soon as they reached his room the family found him lying in a pool of blood. He basically died under mysterious circumstances. Monu Ahlawat was immediately rushed to the hospital where he was declared brought dead," a cop said.
"Preliminary probe suggest that it might be a suicide case, however, forensic team suspect it to be a case of murder. The cause of death will be ascertained once the post-mortem report comes out," the cop added.

A resident of Daurala, the deceased was identified as Vikas alias Monu Ahlawat who was associated with Bharatiya Janata Party. Reportedly, his mother contested for municipal corporation election in 2017. According to the sources, Monu Ahlawat was a close aide of Sangeet Som who is an MLA from Sardhana constituency.
The body has been sent for post-mortem and a probe is underway.
