Mirzapur: Rekha Singh, the mother of the recently martyred jawan Ravi Singh, will be contesting the upcoming District Panchayat election on a BJP ticket. She will contest the election from Chhanvey Block's ward No 3. The Panchayat election is scheduled for 26 April 2021.
Speaking to ETV Bharat, the parents of martyred jawan Ravi Singh claimed that BJP's election ticket has honoured the family by giving them a ticket to contest the election and will encourage the family to fulfil their son's dreams of the local area development.

On 17 August 2020, jawan Ravi Singh of CRPF lost his life in Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla district during a counter-terrorism operation. His last rites were held at Gaura village in Mirzapur on 20 August 2020.

Earlier, BJP's State President for Uttar Pradesh, Swatantra Dev Singh, released a list of candidates on 7th April. The list includes 44 candidates for the upcoming District. The party is contesting is all the 44 seats and is hoping for a majority in the District Panchayat. The party has kept the regional organisation and caste arithmetic into the equation as well. They have nominated former state SCST President Maniram Kaul from Ward no. 2. While Kanti Devi is the party's candidate is Rajgarh's Ward no.3. BJP is banking on these names to get a good result in the upcoming election.
