Rampur (Uttar Pradesh): Rajpura village in Rampur, bordering Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, is deprived of basic amenities as the people are yet to receive electricity supply from the state government.
The locals of Rajpura village claim that they are getting power supply from the Uttarakhand government as the Uttar Pradesh government's power supply is yet to reach their village.
The officials of the electricity department from Rampur — which falls under Uttar Pradesh — erected electricity poles and transformers but those are yet to be operational.
Interestingly, the residents of the village are receiving electric bills from the electricity departments of both states.
Speaking to ETV Bharat, Sukhwinder Singh, a local resident, said, "Poles and wires have been installed here by Uttar Pradesh government but electricity has been supplied by Uttarakhand government. Without electricity supply, power metres have been installed in our houses and we are getting messages to pay the bill to the UP government."
"Electricity poles were installed here in 2018, but they have not connected the power lines to the metres here. The bills are being released every month but there are many houses here, whose total bill mounted over Rs 80000-90000," said Hapi, another local.
When asked about the same, Executive Engineer of Electrical Department (Rampur) Imran Khan said, "I spoke to SDO of Tanda Tehsil. He has ordered an inquiry into the matter and we will take action according to the conclusions that will be drawn on the basis of the investigation."
"It is pertinent that if we are not getting supplies from our sources, then we should not ask for the bill to be paid from our division. Consumers will be helped at our level as we do not want anyone to be financially exploited, " he added.
