New Delhi: Shiv Pratap Shukla, BJP MP in Rajya Sabha on Monday claimed that Samajwadi party leader Azam Khan is a past offender when it comes to making offensive remarks in public and the demand from other parliamentarians led to his apology.
Speaking to ETV Bharat, the former finance minister also said that Azam Khan's apology in the house was his first, even though he had made misogynistic remarks in the past, but no action was taken against him.
"The house accepted his apology. But action should be taken against him to ensure that no such incident takes place in the future," Shukla said.
Azam's remarks to the chair during a discussion on the triple talaq bill was slammed by members as double-meaning, malicious, utterly condemnable and a blot on all legislators.
The speaker Om Birla had said members should be careful in uttering words and maintain decorum so that no such incident takes place in the future.
"This House belongs to all members. This can be run only with the cooperation of members. The chair belongs to you all too and its dignity should be maintained. We all should be careful in uttering words and ensure that no such incident takes place in the future," he said.
