Uttar Pradesh: A case has been filed against 1,200 students of Aligarh Muslim University here, who protested against the Citizenship Amendment Act.
Police said the students violated Section 144 imposed in the area for participating in the protest march against CAA.
The protests at AMU broke out after message of police action against protesting students of Jamia Milia Islamia University spread across social media.
AMU students took out a protest march from the Chungi Gate of the varsity to Bab-e-Syed gate. Hundreds of students participated in this march against the imposition of Section 144 in the region.
"A case has been filed against 1,200 students of the varsity in the Civil line police station. The case has been registered against Section 188 and 324 for the violation of Section 144," said district head of Civil Line Anil Somania.
The anti-CAA protest began peacefully in the region but suddenly turned violent. Police tried to control the protesters but they did not back out.
