Lucknow: A 45-year-old PhD student of the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), hailing from Iraq, was found dead under mysterious circumstances in his rented accommodation, police said on Sunday.
Anil Samania, Circle Officer (CO) Civil Lines in Aligarh, said, "The deceased has been identified as AA Hamid. He was a PhD student in the Geography department of the AMU."
According to his neighbour, Shadab Iqbal, a woman knocked Hamid's door around 11 am, but when he did not open, she informed other flat residents.
"We knocked on the door and windows and after some time we informed the police. Hamid was found lying on the floor. He was not well for some time. His legs had swellings, "he added.
"He was an Iraqi national whose body was found in his rented apartment in the Civil Lines area on Sunday," the CO said.
Circle officer Anil Samaniya said that the Iraq embassy has been informed and the body has been sent for postmortem.
