Aligarh (Uttar Pradesh): Few unidentified miscreants pelted stones at a team of 12 police personnel at Dadon area of Sankra village in Uttar Pradesh's Aligarh on Thursday while they were approaching to arrest wanted liquor smuggler Jagan from his residence.
As many as three police personnel including sub-inspector Harikesh and women constable Shivani and Anita were injured during the attack. They were admitted to a local hospital in Chharra.
Under the drive to arrest wanted criminals across Aligarh, a joint police team of Dadon and Pali Mukimpur raided Jagan's house and apprehended him in a liquor smuggling case.
While they were taking him to the police station, few unknown men, who are believed to be Jagan's associates, stopped the police and entered into a heated argument following which they pelted stones at the team, giving way for Jagan to escape.
Atrauli Circle Officer Prashant Singh said, "The team included Sankara's SHO Nilesh and SI Harikesh Yadav. Harikesh has received a serious head injury during the incident and he fell unconscious" adding that a case has been registered.
Sankara is famous for manufacturing and supply of illegal raw liquor.
