Sant Kabir Nagar (Uttar Pradesh): Four men have been booked for allegedly forging the signature of their pradhan (village head), while she was abroad, in Uttar Pradesh's Sant Kabir Nagar district.
According to reports, Shayma Fatta had been elected as the pradhan of Dariyabad village four years back, following which she left for Bahrain.
She would only visit the village occasionally, villagers claimed, adding that the last time they saw her was around six months back.
However, despite her absence, government funds would be drawn and developmental work would be approved in the village, by allegedly forging her signatures.
Based on the complaint of a villager, a case has been filed against Abdul Fatta, the pradhan's husband, Suhail Ahmed, Belal and Lalchand, said Asit Srivastava, Additional SP, Sant Kabir Nagar.
"According to the FIR, the pradhan left for Bahrain after being elected, and is presently staying there," Srivastava said.
"We are also in talks with the passport department to verify till when her visa is valid," he added.
Meanwhile, further investigation into the matter is underway.
