Lucknow: Twenty-three foreign Tablighi Jamaat attendees who have completed their quarantine period and have tested negative were shifted to the District jail on Saturday.

All male Jamaatis are kept in isolation centres in the jail whereas, women have been kept in women's barracks.

The action was taken against foreign Jamaatis for spreading Coronavirus after which they were kept in a temporary prison where they isolated for more than a month. Now they have been shifted to the district jail as their test reports have come out negative.

These attendees arrived here as tourists and have been charged with travelling across the country violating visa rules and performing religious activities.

The Tablighi Jamaat event, held around the time India was beginning to enforce social distancing, has since emerged as a hotspot.
