12-yr-old sexual assault victim shifted to neurosurgery ICU

The 12-year-old Delhi sexual assault victim, who was undergoing treatment at AIIMS was shifted to the ICU on Friday. Doctors said she might undergo neurosurgery after her blood platelet count improves.

New Delhi: The minor girl, who was the victim of sexual assault in Delhi's Paschim Vihar and was admitted to AIIMS, has been shifted to the neurosurgery intensive care unit (ICU), AIIMS sources said on Friday.

The victim is on a ventilator and at present her blood platelet count is low. She may undergo neurosurgery when the count improves, sources said.

"The 12-year-old girl admitted to AIIMS after alleged sexual assault in Paschim Vihar is in a critical state and has been shifted to the neurosurgery ICU. She's on a ventilator and her platelet count is low. She may undergo neurosurgery after platelet count improves," AIIMS sources said.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said that doctors are trying their best to save the 12-year-old girl. Kejriwal also requested people to pray for the child.

"I spoke on the phone to the doctors and parents of the 12-year-old girl, who was sexually assaulted. I had visited her in the hospital yesterday. She is still fighting for her life. Doctors are trying their best. Please pray for her. In the meanwhile, police has arrested one person," Arvind Kejriwal tweeted.

A 33-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the case. The man, identified as Krishna, also tried to kill the girl. Delhi Police managed to arrest the accused within 48 hours of the crime.

"On Tuesday, a 12-year-old child was assaulted. A case under POCSO Act was registered. We had immediately formed more than 20 teams under the supervision of DCP Outer Delhi," Joint CP, Western Range, Shalini Singh said.

"During interrogation, Krishna corroborated the sequence of events which led to the assault on the child," the police officer said adding that the accused has four criminal cases against him including that of murder, attempt to murder, and burglary.

Meanwhile, the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) and Delhi State Legal Services Authority have granted compensation of Rs 2 lakh to the family of victim from the court.

"A 12-year-old brave girl from Paschim Vihar is fighting for life in AIIMS. Today, DSLSA and Delhi Commission for Women have granted interim compensation of Rs 2 lakh to the girl's family from the court. The Delhi government is also fully assisting the victim's family. Daughter, don't you lose courage, the country is with you!" Delhi Commission for Women chairperson Swati Maliwal tweeted.

The Delhi State Legal Services Authority (DSLSA) on Friday announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh for the 12-year-old girl who was allegedly sexually assaulted in the city's Paschim Vihar area earlier this week.

The amount, which is interim compensation, is being given by the DSLSA's western district.

On Thursday, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced assistance of Rs 10 lakh for the girl who is battling for her life at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences. The Chief Minister, along with Delhi Commission for Women chief Swati Maliwal, also met the family of the victim at the hospital.
