Ayodhya: Twelve members of a family are feared to have drowned while taking a bath in the Saryu river in Uttar Pradesh's Ayodhya district on Friday. Local police and divers have launched a hunt to locate them, police said.
Nearly three people have been rescued so far and they were rushed to a local hospital for treatment, said SSP Sarvesh Pandey. The incident took place at Guptar ghat.
According to reports, the family hails from Sikandrabad and the members were on a trip to Ayodhya Dham.
On getting informed, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath instructed authorities to deploy PAC divers for the rescue operation.
According to police, two people were taking a bath when they started drowning following a strong current in the river. To rescue them, the rest of the members entered the water body to help them but they were also caught in the current. After hearing their cries, local residents reached the spot and informed the police.
