Wedding invitation that sprouts basil

A couple in Sangareddy district came up with the idea of sending eco-friendly wedding invitations for their daughter.  Once soaked in water the pieces of the card can be planted and then sprouts basil plants.

In this statement by Mother Teresa, the 'saint of the gutters' urged people to recycle, even before it became a fad.

Recycling becomes an issue when things are unfit for reuse.

For instance, wedding invitations sent to relatives usually ends up in the dustbin.

With the decorative plastic covers, it adds to the waste in the environment. Many people switched to online network to avoid the task of mailing the hardcopies.

But the charm of the tradition is lost over the online network.

So how about an eco-friendly card made of basil seed paper? Yes! A couple in Sangareddy district found this unique solution to preserve both the tradition and environment. Once soaked in water the pieces of the card can be planted and then sprouts basil plants.

Vijay Bhaskar Reddy and Aruna decided to send these cards for her daughter's wedding. Both of them are an ardent nature lovers.

They came up with the idea to contribute their bit to the environment.

It isn't the first time the couple has taken an eco-friendly initiative. They have inculcated a sustainable attitude and every other thing at their home is inspired by the idea of a greener tomorrow.

They use solar energy for electricity. They have also adopted rainwater harvesting to conserve water.

The lifestyle of this Reddy couple is an inspiration to many.

A family from sangareddy devoted their life  to the environemnt. They are contributing something to the environment even in the family functions, festivals, celebrations which has  become  their tradition. The family has beocme ideal for leading an eco friendly life.





 Vijaya bhaskar reddy, aruna couple will do nothing against environment. He is a nature lover and always loves spending with nature. He toured almost all the major forests of  our country. And also goes to himalayas frequently.Bhaskar reddy works in irrigation department as EE.  They   built their home also  to be eco-friendly. You could see birds feeding  on rice stems hanging on the doors of their house. Ventilation and air is maximised inside the house. Also every water drop is preserved and safely sent into the ground.  Solar equipment is set up to generate electricity. They had adopted a stray dog rescued by PETA . They eat only vegetarian food to avoid violence. 





The couple also planeed their daughter's marriage to be completely eco friendly. The wedding card is studded with tulasi plant seeds and is hand made carefully and the speciality of the card is, it is biodegradable ,when dissolved in water for a night and buried in mud, germinates into a tulasi saplings. The ink used for wedding cards also being natural. Not only wedding card but also greeting cards used for wishing are made out of eco friendly ingredients. Cards are stuffed with marigold seeds so that when buried germinates into plants.
