Hyderabad: The coronavirus is spreading at a rapid and alarming rate, in the state as a large number of new cases are being registered in the districts - Warangal, Karimnagar, Nalgonda, Nizamabad, Mahabubnagar, Suryapeta and Nalgonda. More than a third of the positive cases reported in the last three weeks alone is a reflection of the severity of this virus spread. Districts of the state are specifically turning out to be vulnerable to this deadly virus.

"There is confusion as to from whom the virus was transmitted and we are taking war-based measures to curb the situation," officials said.

The first case in the state was registered on March 2. By the end of the same month, 77 cases were registered. In the months that followed, it increased by fourteen times and by April 30 the total count had crossed one thousand and doubled up by the next month.

The number of cases has been rising since June 1 on a continuous basis.

Since then, within a period of 30 days, around 14,000 new cases have surfaced. By 30th June, the suspects were 16,339 which reached the number of 50,000 within a span of three weeks. The death toll in the state has also risen to 447 in three-and-a-half months. The first COVID death was recorded on March 29, with 140 deaths in June and 187 deaths until now, in July.

Since the beginning, while cases were registered in large numbers under GHMC (Hyderabad) limits, the districts were reporting a small number of diagnoses. At one stage the highest number of cases in the GHMC range was recorded as high as 1948 numbers and in the previous week, around 600 to 700 cases have been reported.

While this decline in the confirmed cases in Hyderabad city is hopeful, a significant increase in districts in recent times is causing grave concern to the officials.

With the exception of GHMC, more than a hundred cases are being diagnosed on a daily basis in Rangareddy and Medchal districts. Amongst those migration workers who have come to the cities, some have returned back to their hometowns due to lack of jobs in the COVID times and some others have travelled back home in fear of contracting the virus.

Medical experts opine that due to this migration back to the villages and districts in huge numbers, it is in all probability that these migrant workers have carried back the virus from the city to the districts and remote villages.

In some districts of the state, not a single case has been registered in the last 14 days. However, currently, coronavirus has spread out its tentacles across almost all the districts in the state. Around 85% of the suspects are carrying the virus without experiencing or displaying any of the viral infection symptoms. Such persons have been on the height of spreading the virus to different people without their or the other’s knowledge. All this has been happening due to lack of awareness amongst the villagers. The disease is spreading rapidly, especially in rural areas due to a lack of undertaking proper precautionary measures such as wearing of masks, maintaining personal hygiene, and lack of personal distance, as per the sources of the medical and health departments.

Concerns have been raised among these groups that if the situation continues, there is a risk of the increase in positive cases by hundreds in numbers among all the districts within four to six weeks.
