Congress delegation meets Governor, stakes claim to form govt in Telangana

Many Congress MLAs are in the race for the CM's post. However, a decision will be taken by the high command after considering the opinions of the elected representatives. The swearing-in ceremony will be held at the LB Stadium in Hyderabad.

Hyderabad: TPCC chief Revanth Reddy led by Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, Manikrao Thakare, Uttam Kumar Reddy and Mallu Ravi met Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan and handed over a letter staking the claim to form the government. They reportedly told the Governor that they would disclose the name of the CLP leader after a meeting on Monday.

Furthermore, Telangana Chief Electoral Officer Vikas Raj will meet Governor Tamilisai Soundarajan on Monday and submit a report on the Assembly elections to the Governor. Similarly, a notification will be issued for the formation of a new Assembly.

Earlier, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar disclosed that Congress MLAs will meet on Monday at 9.30 am. The Congress, which secured absolute majority is gearing up to form the government. Sources say that Revanth Reddy is likely to take oath as the new Chief Minister of Telangana. Instructions have been given to higher police officers to provide elaborate arrangements for the swearing-in ceremony. It is learnt that Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi may attend the swearing-in ceremony.

The Congress party bagged 64 seats in Telangana Assembly polls. Against this backdrop, party sources said that the Chief Minister's oath-taking ceremony will be conducted on Monday. Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president Revanth Reddy has advised the party ranks to make arrangements for the Chief Minister's swearing-in ceremony at the LB Stadium in the city.

The Congress Legislature Party (CLP) meeting will be held on Monday. Congress won 64 seats in the Assembly elections. While Telangana has 119 seats, 60 seats are required to form the government. On the other hand, AICC observers will elicit the opinions of party MLAs and a decision on the selection of the Chief Minister will be taken after the observers send the views of the MLAs to the high command.
