Hyderabad: SHE Team, the concept that was launched on October 24, 2014, here with an aim to curb harassment against women and to provide them security at all places in Telangana, so that they could move in the state without any worry has boosted confidence in women of the state.
Recollecting events, how the concept came into being, Inspector General of Police (Law & order) Swati Lakra, who leads it, told the ETV Bharat that Chief Minister Chandrashekhar Rao wanted to make Telangana a progressive state. He visited Singapore and was impressed with the rapid progress there.
While interacting with the authorities there, he was inquired about the best practices for growth, and in the process, he was asked if the women were safe in his state?
That was the point that made him think on the issue and hence the SHE Team, she added.
Giving details on how it functions, another She-Team Inspector, Sunitha, told that it implements the orders issued to them in their respective areas. There are different departments in She-Team and they use sophisticated gadgets.
Once a complaint is received, a She-Team group – a Sub Inspector, two lady constables, three male constables -- would reach the spot. They conduct decoy operation in mufti. They mingle in the crowd in casual clothes and look for the culprits.
"Team consists of five to six people. These people with spy cameras try to capture the activities of a notorious person in public places. To bookcase against a person, we need evidence. Therefore, we use a hidden camera such as Bluetooth camera, key camera, pen camera to catch the culprits," she added.
The concept of SHE team in Telangana has impressed other states as well.
