Soaring mercury hits Telugu States; six die due to sunstroke

The maximum temperature has crossed 45 degrees Celsius in Telangana and 46 degrees in Andhra Pradesh. Several people including a constable died due to heat stroke in different parts of the Telugu States in the past few days.

Hyderabad : Mercury rises in both Telugu States. Northern Telangana is smouldering and seething with the burning sun. The maximum temperature in Telangana has crossed 45 degrees Celsius continuously for three days. These scorching temperatures were recorded in over 11 districts on Monday. Many parts of Nalgonda and Jayashankar Bhupalapalli districts are experiencing intense heat. Due to this, two died due to heat stroke.

The weather centre has warned that the intensity of the sun will continue on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. As the intensity of the sun has increased for three days, many people who work outdoors are unable to bear it after 11 am. Those who are in the houses are suffering due to lack of electricity. The heat continued till 5 pm.

Curfew like atmosphere in the capital

In Hyderabad, it looked like a curfew in Hyderabad on Monday. All the roads looked deserted due to the heat wave. The ever-busy Secretariat, Lumbini Park, Telugu Thalli flyover and Tankbund routes wore a deserted look at around 2 pm.

Over 2.9 degrees Celsius above normal temperature was registered in Khammam followed by 2.5 Celsius in Nalgonda, 1.3 in Medak and 1.3 in Bhadrachalam. On the other hand, night temperatures also increased. On Sunday night, Khammam recorded 30 degrees Celsius, 2.2 degrees higher than normal, while Hanumakonda recorded 29.5 degrees, 2.1 degrees higher than normal. It is noteworthy that 28.7 degrees are 1.9 degrees higher in Hyderabad city as well.

Three died due to sunstroke

Three people died due to sunstroke in the state. Constable Mutte Santhosh (45) of Ankativada in Lakshettipet of Manchiryala district died on Sunday midnight. He is working as a constable at Ramakrishnapur Police Station. Musuku Pentu (52) from Siddapur village of Hasanparthi mandal of Hanumakonda district is supporting the family as a labourer. On Monday, Pentu, who was working on the outskirts of the village, suddenly collapsed.

He was taken to Warangal MGM Hospital and the doctors confirmed that he was already dead. It is said that he died of sunstroke. Retired SPM worker A Pochaiah (74) of Balajinagar, Kagajnagar town of Kumuram Bhim district fell ill on Sunday after going to the wedding of his relatives. He was taken to the hospital on Monday and died. Doctors confirmed that he died of heat stroke.

The temperature was recorded at 46 degrees in the AP. Maximum temperatures crossed 46 degrees in the Nellore, Prakasam, and Krishna districts of AP, said a report from Amaravati. Two died in Gudivada in Krishna district and one died in Sri Satya Sai district due to sunstroke.
