Telangana assembly may pass resolution against CAA: CM

Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Saturday said the state assembly may pass a resolution against the new law like some other states did recently.

Rao said he has already spoken to many of his counterparts in other states and he may convene a conclave of regional parties and Chief Ministers here to oppose the CAA since it concerns the country's future.

The TRS is secular by its policy and nature and it had opposed the CAA, he told reporters here.

The ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi had voted against the amendment to citizenship law in Parliament last month.

"I have already spoken to many chief ministers on this. I spoke to leaders of other parties also. Probably, maybe, in the next one month, I may arrangen a conclave of regional parties and CMs in Hyderabad to oppose this....100 per cent. Because, this concerns the future of the country. This is not good for India, where 130 crore (people) live," Rao said.

After Kerala and Punjab, Rajasthan became the third state to pass a resolution against the CAA on Saturday.

Rethink over CAA, T'gana CM asks PM Modi

Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has appealed Prime Minister Narendra Modi to rethink the Citizenship Amendment Act stating that it was “not at all good for the country.”

Chief Minister KCR said that the Constitution and the law are equal for all and they will also pass the resolution against anti-CAA.

While addressing a press conference after winning municipal elections, KCR said, "Country's reputation is undermined by the CAA law. During the Budget session  a resolution will be passed against the Citizenship Law by us. On behalf of the state government, they have the opportunity to inform the assembly. "

"If there is opposition from the public... the Central Government has to consider the decisions once again, " he added.

Referring to the Bhainsa incident, CM said, "The Bhainsa incident was controlled by sending reinforcements to the terrorists. He said the municipal election was peaceful in the wake of police action."

The chief minister's statement came on the day when his party, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), looks set to sweep the urban local body polls in the state.
