Hyderabad: The refurbishment works to convert the Sports Village in the Gachibowli stadium into a 1,500-bed healthcare facility, exclusively for Covid-19 patients, have been completed and the facility is expected to be opened in the next few days, Health Minister E.Rajender said.
Health Minister Rajender, accompanied by IT Minister KT Rama Rao and senior health officials, visited the Sports Village to review the construction activity.
The Sports Village facility has been retrofitted with modern technology, on a par with infrastructure available at private healthcare facilities and will have individual and sharing rooms for Covid-19 positive and suspected patients, apart from attached wash rooms equipped with automatic water taps or faucets that come with proximity sensors.
A water tank with a capacity of 10 lakh litres, sufficient for 3,000 persons, is being constructed here. Separate facilities for healthcare workers and other staff are also being created at the quarantine facility. The Ministers interacted with health officials, who are involved in the planning of the facility, for more than an hour and also enquired about the availability of fire safety measures and parking space.
The authorities are also planning to rope in a catering agency to serve nutritious and hygienic food to the Covid-19 suspects and positive patients at the new facility. Senior health officials from health, revenue and other departments were present at the interaction with the ministers.
