Hyderabad: Arun Varma from Hyderabad left many jobs to carve a niche for himself in the world of tattoo making.

Arun Varma is moving ahead with creativity by etching divergent and yet attracting tattoos. What started as an extension of his hobby at a very young age later turned out to be his passion.

Varma has done several jobs after completing MBA. He worked in some organisations of finance and stock markets. None of these jobs gave him satisfaction.

''I did not get satisfaction in any of those jobs. My hobby and interest were compromised. I wanted to do something rare and always wanted to get recognised. Now, my aim is to etch difficult tattoos of miniature size. I am trying to achieve a Guinness record in this field. I plan to engrave miniature tattoos in 2 mm, 5 mm and rupee coin sizes.'' said Arun.

''Known for creativity, this is an attractive art. It has to be done carefully and the final once engraved, neither it can be removed nor can it be corrected. Total concentration and ability are required for etching tattoos,'' he said.

The young tattoo expert hails from Karim Nagar and belongs to the family of artists. His grandfather and great grandfathers were into painting or artistic field and worked in Nirmal Paints industry. Some of them work at Osmania University and carved out the miraculous paintings. His father is working in Nirmal paints industry. Continuing their legacy, Arun Varma is focusing on the tattooing work and trying to get special recognition.

He has just taken primary training in etching tattoos and polished his skills in the art by watching YouTube videos. Then he returned to Hyderabad and started a tattoo studio in the heart of the city in Nallakunta area.

A customer said Arun is one of those enigmatic personalities who believe in enhancing the art rather than just figuring out a way to make money from it. He embraces his work, and his designs hold an essence which is beyond describable. Those who cannot afford can get free tattoos here.

Goa trip with friends totally changed the boy's life and ambition. There he came to know that by etching small tattoos one can earn Rs 20000- to Rs 30000. That's when he took the decision to take tattooing as a profession.

''My father used to draw big paintings and get hardly Rs 5000 to Rs 10000. However, I was taken by surprise that one can receive a big amount of Rs 20,000 to Rs 30,000 for etching tattoos. I came to an understanding to grow gradually and steadily in this art. With that idea, I came to Hyderabad and collected some money and got back to Goa. There I took training in carving the tattoos from an expert,'' said Varma.

Sharing his experience Arun said every tattoo work itself is a challenge. Each person asks for a different type of tattoos. While some ask for names and others vouch for awesome designs. This situation demands a wide gamut of tattoos to suit their needs. Sometimes I have to stop my breathing for a while to draw tattoos cautiously.

Initially, there was a poor response from youth to this rare tattoo art. However later on the youths started coming in big numbers to the studio.

Arun has etched about 5000 tattoos so far and also has trained ten people.

Arun has won a golden talent award from Mayuri Arts. Now he eyes to clinch the Guinness Book of world records. He is moving ahead swiftly as he targets to reach it by etching tattoos that can't be seen through naked eyes.
