Accused kept in solitary confinement in high-security cells

The four accused in the brutal rape and murder of a 25-year-old woman veterinarian have been kept in solitary confinement in high-security cells in the Cherlapally Central Prison here and put under heightened surveillance to ensure their safety.

The four men, all lorry workers, aged between 20 and 24, were arrested on Friday for allegedly raping and killing the woman near here last week and had been remanded to judicial custody by a court for 14 days on Saturday.

An executive magistrate had passed the remand order at the Shadnagar police station, where they accused were lodged,  as they could not be produced in court due to the presence of the large number of protesters in front of the police station.

Police had used mild force to control the agitating crowd on Saturday and additional forces were deployed while the four accused were being shifted to the jail as a precautionary measure and to avoid any untoward incident.

Student threatens to commit suicide; demands capital punishment for rape accused

A graduate student threatened to commit suicide by jumping off a building, demanding capital punishment for the accused persons who raped and killed the woman veterinarian. Police rescued and counseled him, and later handed him over to his parents.

Telangana CM Rao orders Fast Track Court to try woman vet rape-murder case

CM K Chandrasekhar Rao on Sunday ordered setting up of a fast track court for expeditious trial in the case of rape and murder of a woman veterinarian near here and assured all necessary help to her family.

In his first public statement since the incident, Rao also described the rape and murder of the 27-year old woman by four men as 'ghastly' and expressed his deep anguish.

He directed the officials to initiate the process for setting up a fast track court and ensure that the culprits get tough punishment, a statement from his office said here.

The government was ready to extend all necessary help to the family of the woman veterinarian, whose killing has triggered outrage, the statement added.

Residents protest against rape-murder of Hyderabad Vet

Mounting public anger over the rape and murder of the woman veterinarian here saw residents of the colony where she stayed turning away political leaders and others who wanted to call on her family on Sunday to express their sympathies.

The residents locked the gates of the colony at  Shamshabad on the outskirts of the city and held aloft placards that read No Media, No Police, No Outsiders, - No sympathy, only action, justice.

Former CPI(M) MLA J Ranga Reddy and his party workers, who were asked by the residents to go back, said that he and his colleagues squatted at the gates of the colony for some time, expressing support for the family.

He demanded that the Chief Minister take steps to ensure a quick response by police to prevent crimes against women. A number of politicians and others, including some film actors had called on the victims family members since the tragic incident occurred on Thursday.

The charred body of the woman, working as an assistant veterinarian at a state-run hospital, was found under a culvert in Shadnagar near here on November 28 morning, a day after she went missing.

Hyderabad: Amid the protests following the alleged rape and murder of a woman veterinary doctor, several CPM and NGO workers gathered outside her residence on Sunday.

The Telangana police had to start evacuating the area by forcefully sending back the workers from the residence of the doctor. Many other political leaders are slated to visit the residence later today.

Meanwhile on Saturday Chilkur Balaji Temple suspended the entry of devotees for about 20 minutes as a gesture to demonstrate against the rape and murder.

All the devotees remained outside the temple with priests and performed 'maha pradakshinam', a prayer for the safety of women and girls.

The burnt body of the doctor was found at Shadnagar outskirts in Telangana's Ranga Reddy district on Thursday.

The body was later identified as that of a veterinary doctor from the city. As per the preliminary probe, the police suspect that the doctor was sexually assaulted before being charred to death.

The Police on Friday arrested four accused persons involved in the alleged rape and murder case of the woman veterinary doctor.

According to the police sources, the accused that were arrested by the police are a lorry driver and cleaners. The death of the veterinary doctor sparked massive protests in many areas of the country.
