Hyderabad: A family of a pregnant woman infected with coronavirus who later succumbed to the lethal disease was asked to pay an amount of Rs 29 lakhs by a private hospital in Telangana.
"My wife was pregnant, we took her to a hospital in Mahbubnagar city for delivery on August 3. Doctors asked me to get her COVID test done as she was suffering from cough and cold. Even though the reports were negative the hospital didn't admit her. We were compelled to take her to a private hospital in Hyderabad on August 4," said Madhav Reddy, husband of the woman.
Reddy went on to add: "However, two days after her delivery doctors informed that she tested positive for coronavirus. She was then admitted to ICU on August 12. I was not allowed to meet her, in fact none of our family members were able to meet her. Doctors told us that her condition is absolutely stable."

He further said, "After insisting a lot, the doctors allowed me to visit her in ICU, she couldn't even recognise me. Later on Thursday the doctors declared her dead."
Reddy alleged that it was hospital's negligence that led to his wife's death. He said a bill of Rs 29 lakh handed over to him for 20 days of treatment. "The doctors didn't even tell me what exactly happened to my wife that pushed her to death. They kept telling me she was fine but later I found that the truth was just the opposite," he added.
