Elderly woman found dead on pavement in Hyderabad

An elderly woman's abandoned body was recovered from the footpath of Hyderabad on Sunday. It is suspected that the 65-year old woman succumbed to the lethal virus. Police said, her son didn't have money to perform her last rites, he therefore left the body on a pavement.

Hyderabad: A 65-year old woman's body was found abandoned by her son on the pavement near Lumbini Mall on Road Number two of Banjara Hills in Hyderabad, an official said on Monday.

Reportedly, the woman died after suffering from coronavirus like symptoms for few days. Police said, the son didn't take her to any hospital for lack of money. Thereafter, her condition worsened following which she succumbed to her disease.

The deceased has been identified as Bhagirathi (68), a native of Nizamabad. She had come to meet her son, however after a few days of arriving at her son's place she developed fever, police said.

According to the cops, her son Ramesh, a watchman, didn't have money to perform her last rites. He, therefore wrapped the body in a blanket and left it on the footpath. Initially cops believed it to be a case of death of footpath dweller; it was later found that the woman often visited the city from Nizamabad.
