Hyderabad: Cyber fraudsters relieved a Hyderabad-based man of Rs 25 lakhs. According to Cybercrime police, they sent a message to his e mail after hacking his mobile. Based on the victim's complaint, the Central Crime Station (CCS) police found that the cyber fraudsters had hacked the cell phone for the first time and committed the fraud. Based on the messages sent by the criminals to the victim, the police analysed the manner in which the fraud took place.

Cyber fraudsters are first collecting details of those who conducted digital transactions through cellphone. They are sending SMSes to their phones luring in the name of lotteries and prizes. In this case, the victim opened the SMSes, which were sent by fraudsters. Immediately, all his details were leaked to the cyber fraudsters, who in turn, hacked the cell phone, and transferred 35,000 US dollars (approximately Rs 25 lakhs) to their accounts, which he had invested in Bitcoins. Later, they deleted the SMSes and messages related to the transaction from the phone. The victim could not identify immediately, but later he came to know that he had been taken for a ride and lodged a complaint with police. Cybercrime police found that he had received an SMS from the US and another from Australia. Hence, police officers advised the people not to respond to messages that are being sent to mobiles and e mails.
