Hyderabad: The number of Covid-19 cases in Telangana crossed 10,000 mark on Wednesday, with 891 people testing positive for the virus during the last 24 hours.
This is the highest single-day jump in the infections since March 2, when the state had recorded its first case. On Tuesday, the state had reported 879 cases.
Telangana became 11th state in the country to cross 10,000 mark and it overtook Andhra Pradesh, where the cumulative cases rose to 10,331 earlier in the day.
With the massive surge this month, Telangana has reported over 7,000 cases in three weeks.
Five deaths were also reported during the last 24 hours, taking the death toll to 225.
The media bulletin released by the Health Department also shows the state has increased the number of daily tests to 4,069. Cumulatively, the state has conducted 67,318 tests, still much lower than many other states of the same population size.
The director of public health said 137 patients were discharged from hospitals since Tuesday, pushing the number of recoveries to 4,361.
Greater Hyderabad continued to bear the brunt as it accounted for 719 cases on Wednesday. Rangareddy and Medchal district, bordering Hyderabad, together recorded 141 cases. The remaining cases were reported from the other 16 districts.
Meanwhile, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Commissioner Lokesh Kumar said 2,192 people were under home quarantine in Greater Hyderabad. He said the health condition of those under home quarantine was being monitored regularly.
The Commissioner said houses of only those testing positive were being contained.
Earlier, the GHMC was turning the entire colony into a containment zone.
