Hyderabad: Amid the coronavirus-induced lockdown, many families in the city are seen bonding over indoor games these days- from Ludo and chess to scrabble and carrom.

However, Telangana police have told people to be vigilant and warned against playing with neighbours.

Recently, a woman in Suryapet infected at least 31 people while playing a board game. Another incident where a lorry driver transmitted the virus to several people while playing poker has also come to light.

Against these backdrops, the police are objecting any games with more than 4 players.

Mahesh Bhagwat, Commissioner of Police, Rachakonda, said that such group games and outdoor sports pose great danger. These activities will increase contagion, infecting more and more people. He urged the people to take social distancing more seriously

He further said that any player with coronavirus may transmit it to others as the players touch boards, carrom coins or poker cards.

"Though people from the same family can play indoor games while practising social distancing, it is dangerous to play with neighbours," he added.

It is to be noted that the police are explaining the perils of such gatherings to the heads of residential complexes and apartments.
