Hyderabad: The novel coronavirus, which has gripped China and is threatening to spread quickly to other parts of the world including India, has made health officials in Telangana and the other Indian States start focussing on containment, including active surveillance, early detection, isolation, case management, contact tracing and prevention of onward spread of the virus.
A doctor from China who came to Hyderabad has been admitted to hospital with cough and cold symptoms, his samples were sent to Virology Laboratory in Pune. Four other people were also taken to the hospital on Sunday.
According to doctors, patients are being closely monitored and are currently offering only general treatment for colds.
Union health and family welfare minister Dr Harsh Vardhan had on Saturday announced that multidisciplinary teams from the Centre, which would inspect ongoing screening of passengers arriving from China as well as from Hong Kong at international airports in seven cities, including Hyderabad.
