Hyderabad: As the coronavirus continues to spread, negligence on the part of government is proving fatal for the common man. The kin of a 60-year-old man, who sccumbed to coronavirus infection, performed last rites after six days due to lack of coordination among the concerned authorities.
The 60-year-old resident of Annapurna Colony in Mallapur, was admitted to Osmania General Hospital on June 6 after he developed a high fever. After two days, the hospital notified the patient's family members that he tested positive for COVID-19.
However, 15 minutes later, the staff called again to inform that the patient succumbed to coronavirus infection and the body will be handed over to the Nacharam police station.
Reportedly, there was a delay in collecting body due to a shortage of staff at the police station as some of the personnel have contracted the infection.
Meanwhile, the corpse was handed over to the family after six days and, the last rites were performed in the presence three family members on July 14.
The deceased’s mother(85), wife(55) and son(24) went for a test for the coronavirus at a private lab in Ameerpet on July 9.
The COVID Control Room confirmed that they have been tested COVID-19 positive on July 14. The 85-year-old woman was critically ill and was admitted to Gandhi Hospital. The elderly woman died on July 19 while the two other members were in-home quarantine.
The local's health officials and GHMC authorities have reportedly, not reached out to the family members yet. The self-care kit has been not provided to them while the final rites of the elderly woman has not been yet performed.
