'Corona delta variant is currently the most prevalent in India'

CCMB Adviser Rakesh Mishra said that corona delta variant is currently the most prevalent virus in India. The study conducted by CCMB at Varanasi revealed delta variant is most prevalent.

Hyderabad: With the country still battling COVID19, experts say that the corona delta variant is currently the most prevalent virus in India.

Centre for Cellular & Molecular Biology (CCMB) Adviser Rakesh Mishra said that corona delta variant is currently the most prevalent virus in India. Research conducted jointly by Benares Hindu University and CCMB Hyderabad in the vicinity of Varanasi on the new variants of Covid revealed that 36 per cent were B1 617.2 aka Delta variant.

The Corona new variant B1.351, which was first spotted in South Africa, was also spotted in this area. Although there is a special focus on the fast-spreading B-1.617.2 variant, there is a need to focus on other variants as well, Mishra opined.

The Centre for Cellular & Molecular Biology (CCMB) is a premier research organization in the country researching frontier areas of modern biology. The institute is one of the institutes carrying out research on COVID19 pandemic ravaging the country.
