Warangal (Telangana): A protest by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) activists, demanding punishment for the accused in the rape and murder of a minor girl, backfired as two of them sustained severe burns while setting ablaze an effigy, here on Monday.
The incident took place when the party workers were pouring petrol on the effigy.
The fire engulfed a few people including a woman. Two activists - Bingi Srinivas (Yuva Morcha) and Rao Padma (Warangal Urban District President), were severely injured as flames caught up with them.
The duo were immediately shifted to a nearby hospital and are currently undergoing treatment.

Earlier, a scuffle took place between Telangana police and BJP workers during the agitation.
