West Bengal migrant workers allege abuse, violence at Theni poultry

More than 25 workers along with their family working in S.K.M poultry farm on a contract basis alleged that they have not been paid the promised salary and also reported abuse of female workers.

Theni: After facing sexual abuse and physical violence in the last few months, migrant workers from West Bengal staged a dharna in front of Theni District collector's office Monday night.

More than 25 workers along with their family working in S.K.M poultry farm on a contract basis alleged that they have not been paid the promised salary and also reported abuse of female workers.

Located in Thadicherry area, Theni district, the workers said they were promised a salary of Rs 12,000 for men and Rs 10,000 for women. However, after coming here they were paid only Rs 9,000 and 8,000 respectively and not paid at all in the past few months.

"I have been facing sexual and physical violence and verbal abuses over a period of time," Asudha, a worker told ETV Bharat.

District collector Pallavi met the workers and promised them that action will be taken against this culprit. The workers were also assured that they would be sent back to their respective place.
