Chennai (TN): In a shocking development, about 110 fresh cases have been tested positive for the novel Coronavirus in the southern state of Tamil Nadu on Wednesday. With this massive spike, the total number of COVID-19 infected cases have touched a new height of 234 in the state.
The affected are from 15 TN districts and the spurt made the state to stand after Maharashtra and Kerala.
According to the Tamil Nadu health secretary Beela Rajesh, they have tested around 600 swabs and 110 were found positive for the virus pandemic.
"All the cases have the travel history to New Delhi. They have attended the Nizamudin Markaz conference in March and returned to TN," the health secretary told the media.
After the lock-down, this is the ever highest number of cases reported in a single day in Tamil Nadu.
The health secretary said more than 1000 people who attended the religious conference in Delhi have come forward and reported about their travel.
"We have kept all under quarantine and their swabs are to be tested shortly,"the officer added.
The Beela Rajesh had added that the lock down has helped the Government to trace and contain the spread of this pandemic.
It is noted the total number of cases in Kerala has touched 264 cases and TN stands third with 234 positive cases after Maharashtra and Kerala.
"Of the 234 total cases from TN, 190 had the travel history to Delhi for attending the religious conference," she added.
