Chennai (Tamil Nadu): The overwhelming crowd outside Nehru Stadium in Chennai, who thronged to receive Remdesivir, sat in protest as the government stopped the sales of the crucial drug. This comes after the change in policy decision by the state government to sell the anti-viral drug to private hospitals directly.

There's a huge demand for the Remdesivir across the state due to the popular belief that it is a 'life saver'. The government initially sold the drug in separate special centres, such as Nehru Stadium. However, thousands flocked to buy the drug prompting the government to call off the drive. Thousands piled up at the stadium all day long to purchase the Remdesivir.
Realizing the flaw, the Tamil Nadu government changed its policy decision to sell the drug directly to private hospitals according to their requirement. The government is also planning on a framework wherein private hospitals can procure the drug directly. A dedicated portal is expected to be launched for this purpose.
