Chennai: Moved by the generous gesture of a widow, Virudhunagar District Magistrate has promised her a government job and free education to her son after the lady offered her gold jewellery for Covid relief fund. Kavitha, a private school teacher from Rajapalayam in Virudhunagar district, visited the District Magistrate's office on Tuesday. She handed over her gold jewellery to DM Meganatha Reddy as her contribution towards the Tamil Nadu Covid relief fund.
On inquiring why she donated her jewellery for the relief fund instead of cash, the DM was informed that two years back, Kavitha lost her husband in a road accident. "As a widow, I do not wear gold ornaments regularly," Kavitha told Reddy. Citing the people's hardship during the Covid pandemic, she decided to offer her jewellery to the relief fund, the DM said.
The DM appreciated her kind gesture and returned the jewellery. He also promised Kavitha that the state government will provide free education to her son along with a government job to her to sustain their living.
