Theni: Jeevith Kumar, a 19-year-old from Vadipatti in Tamil Nadu's Theni district has topped the NEET test among students from government schools in the district. He scored 664 marks out of 720.

Even though, he achieved this goal, yet his path to becoming a doctor remains dim. His parents, Narayanamurty and Parameshwari - both shepherds - find it difficult to afford his education.

Speaking exclusively to ETV Bharat, Kumar said that students should start their preparation from Class 11 for the entrance test and even students from government schools could clear it with proper guidance.

"Even if you fail in the first attempt, go for another one with more commitment. Suicide should not be regarded as the final solution. Parents should give confidence to their children to ease the pressure," he said.

His father Narayanamurthy said, "If he completes his degree, he would be the first doctor from our family. Unfortunately, our financial capability would not be sufficient to support his studies for five or seven years."

Kumar's family has appealed to the government to bear the cost of his education which would be the best gift for the topper to achieve his dream.

His story of triumphing the NEET exam was not a cakewalk, rather a strenuous struggle full of hurdles. He attempted the exam first time with self-preparation. He passed Class 12 from Model Government School in a nearby village. He scored 193 marks and could not clear the cutoff.

Later, upon identifying his zeal and determination teachers along with some patrons enrolled him in a private coaching center in Salem. He utilized the opportunity to the maximum and came out with flying colours, proving that a humble background would not deter one from clearing NEET which is regarded to be meant for those who could afford expensive coaching.
