New Delhi: Tamil Nadu Members of Parliament are protesting against the idea of including salary as a component to calculate the creamy layer in OBC reservation.

The Southern state's MPs are also asking the Centre to ensure 27 per cent OBC reservation in education and employment.

Senior Parliamentarian and MDMK General Secretary Vaiko, DMK MP P Wilson, VCK MP Thol Thiurmavalan are the leaders lining up against the Centre for leaving OBCs out of the reservation.

According to Vaiko, including salary components for the creamy layer calculation is an injustice to the OBCs.

“Already the Centre is denying reservation for OBCs in the state-surrendered All India Quota (AIQ) in medical admissions. Now, they are trying to include the salary components for calculating the creamy layer which was not included since the reservation method was implemented,” Vaiko said.

DMK President MK Stalin who wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi had also pointed out that including salary for OBC creamy layer calculation is unacceptable.

"The activities of the Centre raise doubts that the BJP led central government wants to abolish reservation. OBC reservation in state-captured AIQ medical seats is not followed for the last four years. In Tamil Nadu, there is 50% reservation for OBC and 19 for SC/STs. But, the Centre is not even ensuring the available 27% of OBC reservations,” the DMK leader addressed in his letter to the Prime Minister.

DMK’s Rajya Sabha MP and senior advocate P Wilson has been advocating for 50% OBC reservation in state-surrendered AIQ seats said that reservation cannot be denied to OBCs.

It is to be noted that Tamil Nadu CM Edappadi K Palaniswami on July 8 had urged the Prime Minister to continue the existing policy of determining the creamy layer by excluding Salary and agriculture income.

He also demanded the PM to ensure 27 per cent reservation for OBCs in civilian posts and services falling under the central government.
