Tamil Nadu: Convict commits suicide, serving life term for sexual assault

A 42-year-old convict named Pazhani who was serving life term for sexually abusing an 11-year-old special-needs child allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself inside the lavatory at the Puzhal Central Jail in Tamil Nadu's Chennai. The jail authority recovered the body and sent it for postmortem.

Chennai (Tamil Nadu): A 42-year-old convict serving life imprisonment, allegedly hanged himself in a lavatory at the Puzhal Central Jail in Tamil Nadu's Chennai, police said on Thursday.

Suffering from depression, Pazhani was serving life term for sexually abusing an 11-year-old special-needs girl child with hearing impairment.

According to the jail authority, Pazhani was going through treatment for depression and was under surveillance.

Inmates of Pazhani's co-cells found the latter hanged in the bathroom and informed the jail in-charge, police said.

Meanwhile, the jail authority recovered the body and sent it for postmortem.
