Rs 1.47 cr stolen from Trichy BHEL Cooperative bank

Rs. 1.47 crore in cash was reportedly stolen from BHEL Cooperative bank in Trichy district of Tamil Nadu. The incident came to light after the accountant opened the bank on Friday morning.

Trichy: About Rs. 1.47 crore in cash was reportedly stolen from BHEL Cooperative Bank in Trichy district of Tamil Nadu. According to reports, the theft occurred at the highly guarded BHEL campus on the wee hours of Friday.

The incident came to light after the accountant opened the bank on Friday morning. Ravindran had earlier withdrawn Rs 1.47 crore and stored in a suitcase which was left unlocked. He opened the bank and found the cash missing from the suitcase.

On Friday morning, BHEL guards raised an alarm on sighting a break-in at a window in the bank building. The Police said that side window of the bank building was found 'disturbed' and police suspect that culprits gained entry through the window.

Salaries of over a thousand employees here are disbursed through the Cooperative Bank. BHEL Security Division guards the facility. A complaint was lodged, and senior police officials including Trichy SP Ziaul Haq carried out spot investigations.

Last month, a major heist to the tune of Rs 13 crore was reported at Lalithaa Jewellery's Trichy unit.

Trichy:

Miscreants that broke into a Cooperative Bank on the highly guarded BHEL campus in Tiruverumbur near here decamped with Rs 1.47 crore during the wee hours of Friday. 

Salaries of of over a thousand employed here are disbursed through the Cooperative Bank. The facility in the BHEL factory is guarded by BHEL Security Division. 

A chest loaded with Rs 1.47 crore was stored by cashier Raveendran who claimed that he had to place it inside through the windows since he does not have the keys to the main door. 

On Friday morning, BHEL gaurds raised an alarm on sighting a break-in at a window in the bank building. 

Sources said burglars had removed the grills of the window to gain access to the cash box, and had fled with it. 

A complaint was lodged and senior police officials including Trichy SP Ziaul Haq carried out spot investigations.
