Newly elected young panchayat president aspires to win President's medal

The 22-year-old graduate woman, who will take over as panchayat president, said her ambition was to get the award from the hands of the president for her village.

Tenkasi (Tamil Nadu): Charukala, a 22 years old engineering graduate from Tenkasi, has been elected as the president of the Venkatampatti Panchayat Council of Kadayam Panchayat Union in the recently concluded election.

Charukala, daughter of Ravi Subramanian and Shanthi couple, hails from Lakshmiyur village in Venkatampatti panchayat. After completing her Bachelors in Engineering, she is pursuing her Master's now.

On the advice of her father, she contested in the local body elections. She contested for the post of panchayat president under the lock and key symbol. She was well-received by the people of the town when she campaigned as well.

Speaking exclusively to ETV Bharat on her victory Charukala said, "I contested the election to make our village a model village. As soon as I take charge, my first job will be to bring drinking water and solve the water problem under the Union government's 'Jal Jeevan' program. Our villagers see me as their own daughter.

When there was water scarcity in our town, my father provided water free to the people. My father's service ensured this victory possible for me" she said.
