Chennai: Former Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa's co-accused in disproportionate assets case and live-in aide VK Sasikala is back in town, vows not to bow down to the oppression while she was accorded rousing receptions along the route.
This is her homecoming after serving 4-years jail term as a convict in the said disproportionate assets case.
After addressing her footsoldiers at a reception point at Vaniyambadi, she told the media that the denizens of the state were totally aware as to why the Jayalalalithaa's cemetery-cum-memorial came under curtains.
Earlier when she was convicted, she vowed at Jayalalithaa's memorial to defeat all the ploys against her and the party, in a theatrical fashion banging thrice on the memorial.
Jayalalithaa's memorial which was recently thrown open for the public by the chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami(EPS) on a day when Sasikala was released from prison was soon closed for public citing maintenance by the State's Public Works Departement(PWD).
To a question whether she would visit the AIADMK party headquarters, Sasikala quipped that one has to wait and watch her.
Responding to another query on taking over the party reins, Sasikala maintained that she would answer it when she meets everyone in the near future.
Though Sasikala led the Koovathur resort politics to ensure the present ruling dispensation stayed afloat, EPS who accrued to power has asserted that it was not her but the MLAs of the party elected him as the CM. A battery of ministers had met the DGP twice and petitioned him to take stock of the situation and to take action against Sasikala and her associates for misusing party flag besides attempting to disturb peace and tranquillity in Tamil Nadu.
The ruling AIADMK which has barricaded the entire party office in Royapettah, had made the District Police of Krishnagiri to issue an ambiguous statement on Sunday night barring Sasikala from using the AIADMK flag.
Notice to the same effect was served on her when the Toyota Land Rover Prado she was travelling in, entered Tamil Nadu near Hosur seeking to remove the party flag which remained on the vehicle which was once used by Jayalalithaa.
There was an argument between the local district officials and Sasikala supporters who maintained that she can use the party flag as long as the legal fight for the party's General Secretary post is settled.
Springing a surprise, Sasikala got down from the Prado and boarded another vehicle in her convoy which belonged to a party worker from Chennai who is also a primary member of the party.
Her convoy was stopped at Sathuvachery near Vellore, and it was trimmed down to five vehicles. Her supporters tailing her from Bengaluru were not allowed to proceed in her convoy. Sasikala who left Bengaluru by morning is expected to reach Chennai by midnight.
