Kashmir willow cricket bat will be used for the first time in T20 World Cup. The bats are manufactured from the Panchpura, Bijbhara area of South Kashmir.

Kashmir: Kashmir willow cricket bat will sport in the T20 World Cup 2021 to be held in Oman. It will be for the first time that bat manufactured from South Kashmir is gaining the spotlight in an international event.

Kashmir willows promise perfect balance without altering bat speed. The Kashmir willow's fiber orientations are slightly horizontally oriented. The cricketing fraternity is familiar with English and Kashmir willows. The bats are termed as willows as they have been carved out of the willow plant of Salix alba. The bark of Salix alba is used as a medicinal remedy for cold, fevers, and joint pains for a long time among different cultures. The willows are fast-growing trees that grow up to 60 to 80 feet. The trees are found in colder climates as in Kashmir, Europe, Canada, Russia, reports said.

Speaking to ETV Bharat, Fazal Kabir, Great Sports owner, said that he had to work hard to take this cricket bat from being Kashmir willow to the international level. According to him, Kashmir willow is found in only two places in the world, with England and Kashmir topping the list. Fazal said that to achieve this, he had to bring a team of skilled and experienced craftsmen from other states of the country to the said company. Great Sports is a private company from Sangam area of ​​South Kashmir.

When the ETV Bharat spoke to the artisans working in the factory, they said that bat makers should be experienced. First, they should test the lift and then only they can make a good bat.
